Product Manager  Certifications

Why Its not worth the money

TL;DR - PM Certs will not help you get a job. Anyone paying for a class will receive a certification without any exams or projects. Hiring teams do not take it seriously.

Product Management Certifications are Not Worth The Money

Product Management Certifications are Not Recognized By Hiring Teams

- Lack of a solid curriculum - No tests or projects to verify you actually learned anything.

Product Management Certifications Lack A Solid Curriculum

Each course has a different curriculum that is custom created in house, not a central standards authority.  They do not reflect companies such as Google or Facebook.

PM Certifications Are Like Participation Medals - Everyone Gets One

Everyone that takes a product management course and puts in minimal effort gets a "Certification".

Product Management Certifications Do Not Help With Interviews

PM Cert classes do not help with specific practice needed for interviews. There is no prep for case studies or specific PM interviewing styles.

Instructors Are Hired For Their Clout, Not Knowledge

You do not actually learn anything from FAANG. The instructors background lure you into the course, but they only regurgitate a powerpoint made by the "School"

What You Can Do Instead

1) Spend the ~$4k you would in a certification and build your own product & hire a developer. 2) Learn Product Management from your current job and company. Use internal resources and volunteering to help with PM tasks.
